NEW RESIDENTS
INFORMATION
DRIVER’S LICENSE
If you are a new
resident of the state and hold a driver’s license from another
state, Texas requires you to obtain a Texas driver’s license within
30 days of establishing residency. You will need to take either
a certified copy of your birth certificate or a valid out-of-state
driver’s license with you. You will be required to pass both a
vision test and a written examination. You will need to take a
driving skills test if you do not have a current Texas or out-of-state
license of if you are advancing in "class".
To obtain a Texas
driver’s license you must either be 18 years of age or older or
you must be at least 16 and have completed a certified driver’s
education program, including both classroom and "behind the
wheel" segments. If you have moved to the Clear Lake area
from another city within Texas, be sure to have a new Texas license
issued, giving you new address. You must do this at the Department
of Public Safety driver’s license office within 30 days of relocating.
A Texas driver’s
license must be renewed every four years. It can be renewed at
the Department of Public Safety Driver’s License Office designated
below.
