CLEAR LAKE,
THE CHARMING RESORT GET-A-WAY
In Clear Lake, visitors
and residents alike enjoy a wealth of sights to see, place to
go, and things to do. One of the area’s hottest attractions is
the Johnson Space Center. Attracting tourists from around the
world, the JSC amazes visitors with its rocket park, Skylab training
facility and museum filled with space program artifacts. The focal
point for the United State’s manned space flight programs, the
Johnson Space Center is ranked as the number three tourist attraction
in Texas. Also of special note is the new multi-million dollar
Visitors Center designed by Walt Disney Imagineering. The center
is expected to increase tourism to the Space Center to over 3
million persons annually, making it the number one attraction
in Texas. The Visitors Center will feature a lunar landscape,
mission control simulations, two 180 degree movie theaters and
an exhibit hall for manned spaceflight artifacts.
EVENTS
A full calendar of
events also provides visitors and residents with a host of special
activities to attend throughout the year. Events include everything
from a July 4th Fireworks-On-The-Water display to a
Confederate Air Force Show and Christmas Boat Lane Parade. In
September, the famous Thunderbirds thrill, chill, and delight
as they go through incredible flight maneuvers during "Wings
Over Houston", scheduled to take place at nearby Ellington
Field.
WATER SPORTS
A paradise for water
lovers, the Clear Lake area has something for everyone. Fishermen,
water-skiers, and boating enthusiasts find a true heaven on earth.
A mecca for leisure boating, over 6,000 boats are docked at seven
major marinas. Boaters may bring their own crafts or charter one.
Excursion cruises for larger groups and fishing charters also
are available. Clear Lake also offers rentals for windsurfing,
jet skiing and para-sailing.
PARKS AND CLUB
FACILITIES
"Landlubbers
Take Heart!" For those who prefer dry land, the area also
boasts nine golf courses, while landscaped public parks offer
hiking trails, tennis facilities, picnic areas, playgrounds, and
ball fields. Three camping and RV parks also serve the area.
Nature lovers will
be fascinated with the nature trails, hiking and exhibits at the
Armand Bayou Nature Center, a wildlife refuge and nature study
center where animals and birds live as nature intended. Also at
Armand Bayou is the Jimmy Martyn Farm, a recreated 1800's working
farm where both children and adults go back in time to see how
things were done on the farm a century ago.
